The following is a recent email received from one of our distinguished alumni
Hi!
I'm a Columbia grad from a LONG TIME ago! 1978 to be exact! Wanted to give you an update on my career... My name is Ken Herrera and I've never forgotten the value of the training I received from CSB. It put me where I am today, which is WTMJ radio in Milwaukee. Now Milwaukee may sound like a tiny market compared to the places I've been over the years, but believe me when I say my job as Host of Wisconsin's Morning News here (The top rated radio show in the entire state!) is the BEST job I've had in all my years in radio. It also happens to be the best paying job I ever imagined!! WOW! You really CAN make big bucks in the medium markets!
Your "Hall of Fame" page still lists me as being at WBBM in Chicago, where I did spend a total of 6 years doing AM or PM drive.
My current address and phone are listed below. Feel free to use my name and career in any advertising or notices you might send to prospective students as I have always and will always feel a great sense of indebtedness toward CSB. Just a quick summary now of where I've been over the years! The list is long, and I think pretty darned impressive...and It ALL started with Columbia School of Broadcasting in Houston back in the 70's!
Stations (In the order I worked for them)
KPAC-Port Arthur, Tx
WOAI-San Antonio, TX
KTRH-Houston
WFAA-Dallas
KRBE-Houston
KPRC-Houston
WOAI-San Antonio
UPI Radio Network-- Washington DC
KNX-Los Angeles
NBC Radio Network (Morning Anchor)
WWJ-Detroit
AP Radio Network (Morning Anchor)
WBBM-Chicago
WTMJ-Milwaukee
I tell people I have a lifetime achievement award from Uhaul! Lots of moves, lots of memories and a marvelous career... all thanks to the folks and the training at Columbia! The list above doesn't even begin to tell the story of a career that started with a phone call back in 1977 when I found myself...again...looking for a job! There just isn't time to list the awards won, the people (and Presidents) I've interviewed and the places I've seen.
I started in the biz in 1978, so it's been 28 wonderful, fun and exciting years!
Thanks again, Columbia!
Sincerely,
Ken Herrera
